There are many reasons why the study of faith is important. One obvious reason is that the Bible said “without faith, it is impossible to please God.” Hebrew 11:6 Let me put that in plain English. The Bible in essence is saying that without faith, it is impossible to get God involved in your life, family, career, business, pursuit, and/or undertakings. In other words, faith is the currency by which any man or woman can do business with God. If you want to get God involved in your affairs, you must have faith in God.
Another way to look at it is to say that without faith, it is impossible to get God on the phone line. I don’t know about you, when and if I make a telephone call to heaven, I want to be able to get God on the line. In short, without faith, you cannot move God in to action in your life. Everything about God begins with faith. It is the foundation upon which every other aspect of Christian life is based. You cannot be saved without faith. You cannot be healed without faith. You cannot prosper without faith. You cannot make it in life as a Christian without faith. In short, without faith it is impossible to get God involved and without God you can do nothing. [Malachi 3:6] In fact, to be blunt with you, without faith one is bound to fail in life. Why, because “except the Lord build the house, they that labor do so in vain. Except the Lord protects the city, in vain the watch man is watching.” [Psalms 127:1] So, whatever you are doing right now will not prosper without faith. Without faith, there is no future in your future.
Many people would often talk about faith in terms of their denominational belief. Some would say, I am of the Baptist faith or I am of the Methodist faith. Then, there are some charismatic folks who believe that they are a part of the faith movement. Well, faith is not a movement or a denomination. Faith is a living force, drawn from the living Word to produce a living proof. In other words, faith is a practical application of the word of God in your life. It is your own personal practical demonstration of your believe and/or confidence in whatever God said.
Faith is derived from the living word of God. In other words, faith must be drawn from the word of God. If your faith is not based on what God said, it is not faith. Like the woman with the issue of blood in Mark 5:21-35, virtue must be drawn from God through His word. That ability to put the word of God into practice in your life is what is called faith. The woman with the issue of blood knew that Jesus had virtue on him. She was just determined to move closer to him and touch the helm of his garment. In doing so, she was able to withdraw virtue from the living God to produce a living truth that God is a healer.
The Word of God that you choose to know, understand, believe, and act upon would determine the level of your faith. The more of your time and energy that are invested in gaining knowledge, understanding, believe and performance of the word of God, the more a man or woman of faith you would become.
