Sometimes when we got home momma was pissed off, and ready to fight,
No mailman in sight, and when he did come he never seemed to be on time.
Or hold the line…… you pullin up in that raggedy mail truck drivin way too slow,
And you can see the mailboxes surrounded by all these poor black folks,
And you know….
They waitin on you
It’s the first and you playin….
takin your sweet time, to deliver their life,
The paper slip that equals their household supplies,
Getting out slowly, casually, shootin the breeze, got the nerves to be sippin on a slurpee…
We could care less if… it… is….
This hot Sacramento summertime heat,
It’s hostile, in this environment;
You could possibly get straight up beat!!

The very moment……I sensed your presence…..
I always knew to expect …. That you’d Demand folks respect...
Although my circumstance was one of shame,
No doubt revealing your arrival, would create pain.
The sheer result of being wild, Naïve and vain,
This attention starved girl, doorway for flesh and bones coming into this world.
I didn’t think too often………

More clear to me than a movie scene,
To the days of when you were a child.
Tomboy, you told me they would say, Josephine most definitely did not play,
Known for packing Ice picks in her brassiere, pretty long black hair and fair skin,
But don’t let the smooth taste fool you,
Cause if she don’t beat you down,
She will cut you down to ya bare ankles,
And not loose any sleep over it.
Just might walk past you the next day and have the nerve to smile and wave!
