Two hours into the watch Grinwald gave a low growl in the back of his throat and his hackles rose. The Great Pretender patted him on the back and whispered, "Good boy Grinwald," "What is it," asked the Master Gardener quietly. "Something is moving over there, by the supplies tent." I'll get our weapons," said the Master Gardener and he slipped silently into the tent. A few seconds later he was back and passed the Great Pretender his trusty sword.Who, or what ever it was had opened the tent flap and was peering inside. As they watched they saw Ragnor move swiftly and silently across to the tent and with the flat side of his broad sword he whacked the large bottom sticking out of the tent. There was an almighty screech and Brother Jerome backed out of the tent clutching his ample posterior. He saw Ragnor and went wild with rage. he produced his sword in a flash and shouted, "Who are you to strike a man of God?" "A man of God," shouted Ragnor, "more like a man of Gluttony." "You great hairy heathen," shouted Brother Jerome, "I'll run you through," Ragnor and Brother Jerome danced around each other, clashing weapons every now and again, and shouting abuse at one another. Ragnor enjoyed a bit of parry and thrust every now and again, but he was getting bored with this tiresome monk, so he brought his sword sharply up and knocked the brother's sword out of his hand. It flew into the air, somersaulted and came swiftly down where it impaled the brother's small toe to his sandal. The brother yelled in pain and Ragnor moved quickly forward, held the brothers foot down with his own, and with a sharp movement pulled out the sword and threw it on the ground, out of reach of the brother. The brother threw himself on the ground hugging his injured foot, which was not easy considering the size of his stomach. He rolled about shouting in the most ungodly fashion about what he was going to do to Ragnor. "Stop yelling you big woman, it's just a pin prick," shouted Ragnor, "call yourself a fighting monk I've fared far worse and thought nothing of it.

About the Book
A group of weary travellers filed down the mountainside on their way home. They had been to fight a great battle against the Evil Blue Dragon and won. But all was not as it should be, for at their first stop the travellers found that all the people and animals had vanished from the village, and the lamasery was also empty. Not a single monk remained. Who, or what, had taken them, They realised that they are in grave danger. Suddenly the party of travellers disappeared, with the exception of one, Raynor the Hammerhead. He alone had to find out what happened to them, and effect a rescue without being caught himself. So started the perilous journey back, and the adventures of our travellers.
About the Author
The author was born in the Medway Valley in Kent, and brought up there during the war years.She still lives in Kent with her husband in the old medieval town of Faversham. She came to writing late in life when she had retired and her children had left home. She writes both for children and adults, and her childrens books have the element of mystery, magic and adventure. She writes for the nine year old in all of us, as she beleives that we all need a little magic and adventure in our lives. This book is a follow on from The Evil Magic of the Blue Dragon Tree
