"Then who is it, Barnsniff? A compromise candidate. We spoke of Tradmentor of Narosan, I think, as a good man for the job." "Yes, we cautiously brought forward the name of Tradmentor. The idea was received respectfully, but his candidacy never caught fire. The conference had another favorite in mind, apparently all along." "Really? Don't keep me in suspense, Barn. Who is it?" Another twitch of the lip. "I have the honor of speaking to the Supreme Warlord of the Allied Forces for the Preservation of Jupiterian Civilization." "I'm glad you did. Put it in your resume. But that doesn't tell me to whom you were speaking." "Your Majesty misunderstands me. I didn't say I had the honor. I said, I have the honor of speaking to the Supreme Warlord of the Allied Forces for the Preservation of Jupiterian Civilization." A third and final twitch of the lip. I stared at him. Could he mean what he seemed to mean? I silently asked the question with my eyes, and he nodded once. I'm glad I was sitting, or I would have fallen. I'm told I went white, but I would have thought it was fire red, as a wave of heat started in my potbelly and rolled upward to my face. "Surely you don't mean . . ." "I mean precisely that, Your Majesty. You were the unquestioned, overwhelming choice of the conference. In fact the vote was unanimous, with one abstention." "Madness. A seventy-four year old man, with no pretension to martial skills. No particular leadership abilities. No reputation for wisdom. With no particular record of excellence at running my own empire, only a long, gray, nondescript reign. Madness. What was the conference thinking?"

Sagwind IV was appointed Supreme Warlord of the Allied Forces for the Preservation of Jupiterian Civilization, in the war with Godosan--a war which shook an entire planet. This is his very personal report on that expedition. Final War On Jupiter is the concluding volume of the trilogy, The Chronicles of Jupiter. Book I was War On Jupiter by Lieutenant Nublander. Book II was Brains Ought Not to Be Overworked by Wrinklebonk. All three books were translated from the original Jupiterian, and edited for American audiences, by Carl Wells.
