About the Book
Clarence Blooms in Winter is about the only Plantasaurus in the entire world. Clarence changes with the seasons, like plants and flowers in a garden. He feels lonely and dejected because all the "others" stare and point at him in wonder. But he thinks they're staring and pointing because his nose is bigger than all the other noses he has ever seen. He doesn't realize how much beauty he brings into the world, because he is unable to see past the nose on his face.
In a wry and unique voice, the story of Clarence Blooms in Winter unfolds. Unlike many typical children's books, this tale does not have a pat ending. Through imaginative, whimsical illustrations, the story of Clarence and the elusive changes he undergoes unfold throughout the four seasons in glorious color—ending in the barest of winters. And it is in a barren winter, "wild and white," that Clarence finally "blooms."
