Please enjoy a preview of one of the poems in Essence of My Soul by Denise Embers. The poem is titled “My Grandmother “This is one of the many poems that remind the reader what is most important in life, love and everything in between.
My Grandmother
When I think of her I envision a queen on a throne
A woman who is gifted with knowledge and wisdom
Always taking care of her own
She is my protector, my teacher, my role model and my best friend
Looking over me and guiding me through the thick and the thin
Because she never pretends
She will tell it like it is in any given situation
Helping me to determine what is love or some silly infatuation
She never takes a vacation from the demands of motherhood
In fact she tells me that it is all good to sometimes make mistakes
Guess what?
I don’t want to be like Mike I want to be like my grandmother who has skills like making homemade sweet potato pie and mouth watering peach cobbler on Thanksgiving Day
She always maintains a positive attitude despite the adversity she may face
There is nothing like having the support of my grandmother who will encourage me to always be strong
Through the difficult times and disappointments which can make any day seem long
My grandmother is my shero because she always saves the day
She always lifts my spirits and she always reminds me to pray
To the Almighty above because He will always be there for me
Even when I feel there is no way out and everything has me feeling blue
As I look at my grandmother I can always draw strength from her
determination, perseverance and enduring faith knowing that
Our love will always be alive and never fade
Because I know that I don’t always express the way I feel everyday
However, I want the world to know that she can never be replaced
My Grandmother
