“No stinkin’ way, Maki. I told you a long time ago that I’m not goin’ out to that screwball’s place ever again.”
“He’s not a screwball, Jag.”
“Oh really. You know yourself, the one time I went out there with you, all he did was give me the evil eye. He never so much as said, ‘Hi’, ‘Goodbye’, or ‘Kiss my ass’ to me…As far as I’m concerned, that qualifies him as a screwball.”
“Skinny does that kind of thing on purpose. Once you really get to know him, he’s no different than anybody else.”
“Yeah, right. That’s why he lives out in the middle of the woods, all by himself, because he’s so normal and stable.” Jag was getting wound up, talking louder now. “Answer me this Ray, how many sane people do you know that stick out their tongues and blow mouth-farts every ten minutes?”
“Do I get to count Billy and J.P.?”
Ray tried smiling the question. Jag wasn’t amused, so Ray tried a white lie.
“Skinny has mellowed out quite a bit since the last time you’ve seen him.”
“Oh sure thing, Maki. I ain’t buyin’ that load of freshly made-up bullshit…Another thing, tell me why anyone would want all those goofy books he’s got on Nazis, and Hitler, and Mussolini. You told me that he’s even got a book about that lunatic in
“Idi Amin?”
“Yeah, that sweetheart…And aren’t you the fella who tells me he’s always readin’ about black plagues, and bloody massacres, and world wars? Only gun-totin’ wackos read that kind of crap.”
“I’ve never seen him with a gun,” Ray countered feebly.
