What Makes Me Smile?

Something that makes me smile;
I don’t know what it is.
The trees, the grass or leaves;
What makes me smile?
Wait!
I know what makes me smile.
My mom and my dad,
They make me smile.
Why, you may ask?
They tickle me,
Making me smile until it hurts.
They make me smile until 5:00pm.
When it’s time to go to bed,
I can’t,
because I know something

Poetry at Poinciana is a courageous attempt on word play created by Fourth Graders from Poinciana Elementary School in Boynton Beach, Florida. It is full of off the wall poetry that pierces the heart and tickles the funny bone, bringing joy and laughter to readers young and old. Orchestrated by parent volunteer and Author, Franklin Dewitt Ireland, Sr., a great deal can be learned about the promise of tomorrow from this literary masterpiece.
About the Author
Poetry at Poinciana was written by sixteen unique fourth graders who truly believe that a mind is a terrible thing to waste. Their unlimited imagination and colorful view of the world is sure to catch fire with peers, starting a youthful renaissance period in public schools around the world.
