As I prepared to leave work one day, Mary, a co-worker of mine, asked me, “Why do you suppose misunderstanding God is the greatest mistake ever?” Looking at the clock on my desk, I could see that I had a few minutes to explain my reasons for this statement. I told her that, when we do not know about God, we live in obscurity (lack clarity). We permit our fallen human nature to govern our lives instead of God. If you disagree with me, look at the condition our world is currently in because we want to run the show. Our marriages are short-lived, our children are lost and killing each other, crime is on the rise, our economy is collapsing, respect is a lost element, love for each other is growing cold, men are forming relationships with other men and women are intimate with other women, and people are more self-centered than ever.
God created the universe, and as the Owner of the universe, He has principles set in place for His people to live by. For example, people in the world tell us to love our neighbors and hate our enemies. The Word of God tells us to love our enemies and pray for anyone who mistreats us (Matthew 5:44). The world repays evil with evil; the Word of God, says to overcome evil with good (Romans 12:21). God loves us, and He is concerned for our well-being. He does not want us living in sin and ruining our lives, because He made us in His image and likeness (Genesis 1:26-27).

About the Author
Jeanette Murphy was born in Shreveport, Louisiana, to Melvin Joe Murphy and Gloria Jean Martin-Murphy. Her family of seven moved to Southern California when Jeanette was just four years old.
In 2000, Jeanette enrolled in the International Seminary School of Theology—L.A. Extension, where she received a certificate in Practical Theology.
