The cackling wind blew through Brad's hair as his finger tips brushed up against the ivory cornstalks. As the faint whispers spoke to him, shivers racked through his spine.
"Did you hear that?", he asked his sister Danielle.
Danny looked at her brother and her face turned pale.
"Yeah. Let's get out of here."
"Come on, sis. It's got to be the wind talking. Remember, Halloween is next week, and, it's too early for you to be spooked."
"Brad, you're scaring me. I want to go home now!" she screamed.
Brad who was ten, knew it was unfair of him to keep his sister out past dusk. She was nine, but, scared of the dark, and, he knew better.
"Okay. I'll walk you across the street."
She bolted in front of him as he spoke. He wanted her to get home safely, and then, he'd turn around and come back to meet the whisperer.

About the Book Brad, Adam, and Danny are looking forward to Halloween next week. Their favorite place to visit is the pumpkin patch across the street. It is the same one that their father Sam used to explore as a youngster. When Brad asks to go explore the land, like a Pilgrim would’ve done, he shocks his father with his comment. The historic tale brings Adam and Brad together as they embark on a Halloween adventure that they never imagined could possibly happen to them.

About the Author: Cheryl A.Vatcher-Martin M.A. is an award winning writer, poet, and photographer. “The Cornstalks Are Whispering” garnered her a fiction award in October of 2008. She likes to think like an eight year old and pen stories that intrigue children of all ages. Her interest in history spills over into this Halloween tale. She paints a picture with words that tells this story in such a way that the reader will want to know more about colonial history. In addition to writing this book, she has written other children’s books, as well as poetry and non-fiction books. She has taught students how to write poetry, fiction, and non-fiction. She’s also instructed children of all ages in French, German, and Spanish. Mrs. Martin has a Master’s of Art’s Degree in Education from the University of Michigan.
