     Melvin J. Robey is a third generation plant scientist who enjoys growing and studying plants, learning their secrets and then writing about what he has discovered. In the process he has traveled throughout Europe, England, Asia, the Middle East, and the Caribbean gathering information on African violets and confirming they are the most popular flowering houseplant in the world.    

     The author earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Utah State University where his studies specialized in the plant sciences: botany, horticulture, soils and agronomy. A Master’s degree from Purdue University allowed him to delve deeper into the secrets of the plant world. Robey has drawn upon his educational background to supplement years of practical gardening experience to compile information for all his African violet books. His down-to-earth, easy-to-understand approach to writing is the key to his success as an author.

      Mel Robey and his wife Daeng divide their time between living in the southern California city of La Quinta, near Palm Springs and Pattaya/Jomtien, Thailand. Besides writing Mel’s hobbies include: golfing, fishing, traveling and lounging at the beach with a good book.

     Tish’s artwork is enhanced by a unique intimacy she shares with nature and her love of plants. The attention to detail brings to life her illustrations of the African violet plant. Four lovely African violet pastels have been enjoyed by the author since first being introduced to Tish’s world of plants.

     As an established artist she lives in Carbondale, Colorado, surrounded by the natural beauty of distant mountains. She teaches art in local schools, as well as nearby colleges and at the university level.

     She has a Bachelor of Science Degree in Agriculture and a Master of Arts Degree, both from Purdue University.
