"Fasting 1,000 Consecutive Days” is a book about the experiences that Dr. Vernard Johnson encountered as he fasted a thousand consecutive days. During the fast he also thanked God a thousand times a day. This spiritual journey was certainly not meant to impress man, but rather as a means of consecration and a closer walk with the Lord. It was also not meant to be recorded in the book of Guinness World Records, but it was intended to be recorded in God's Book of Life. The record is in heaven and the witness is on high. Jesus said in John 8:14, “Though I bear record of myself, yet my record is true: for I know whence I came, and whither I go.” Is it possible to fast 1,000 consecutive days? Not fasting day and night without any food and water, no, that's not possible. However, fasting from 15 to 17 hours a day for over 1,000 consecutive days is possible. He was careful not to allow people to know that he was fasting. Even His church congregation did not know about this. Out of necessity, only his immediate family knew --his wife of 39 years, his mother and their daughter witnessed this `1,000' day fast, and those that the Lord would lead him to share it with for a particular reason. Yet there were three greater witnesses. 1 John 5:7 & 8 declares, “For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one.” Matthew 6:16-18 tells us, “Moreover when ye fast, be not, as the hypocrites, of a sad countenance: for they disfigure their faces, that they may appear unto men to fast. Verily I say unto you, they have their reward; but thou, when thou fast, anoint your head, and wash thy face; that thou appear not unto men to fast, but unto thy Father which is in secret: and thy Father, which sees in secret, shall reward thee openly.” One would think that during a fast like this, the person fasting would not have a problem or a care in the world, but on the contrary, it was quite the opposite. Satan came from every direction and with every weapon possible. There were tests after tests. Some were passed and some were not, but the ultimate test was whether to continue fasting in the midst of the struggles and even defeat. Dr. Johnson chose not to quit or throw in the towel. He chose to do like Isaiah in Isaiah 50:7, “. . .
In the midst of insurmountable odds, physical afflictions, disappointments, financial difficulties, church problems, and attacks by the enemy, Dr. Johnson continued to endure his fast, always depending on God to honor His Word in James 1:12, “Blessed is the man that endureth temptation: for when he is tried, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord hath promised to them that love him.” His thanking God a thousand times a day was part of the catalyst that helped propel and energize his fast. This is a crucial time for people all over the world. Churches and individuals from all walks of life need the blessings of God on their lives. Praise is the key to great blessings. “1000 CONSECUTIVE DAYS OF FASTING” reveals how blessings that have been held up for years can be unblocked and released. It is also a book that will burst forth new praise unto God like the world has never witnessed. It is informative as well as provocative and will challenge, intrigue and inspire readers to have a closer relationship with God as never before.

Is fasting 1000 consecutive days possible? Not fasting day and night without any food and water, no, that's not possible; but fasting for over a thousand consecutive days from 15 to 17 hours a day is possible. Never in my wildest dreams did I think that I would be the person to do this. But why fast 1000 days? What was the reason behind it all? I wish the answer to why a person would fast 1000 days was simple, but it's not. The absolute truth is that I never intended to fast 1000 days. It never even entered into my mind. Had it, I know I would have rejected the idea. I never thought it was possible. I didn't even think 100 days was possible until GOD blessed me to do it. It was not until I had fasted around 700 days that I began to believe 1000 days of fasting was possible. That's when I prayed and said to God, “Lord, since you have blessed me to fast 700 days, I have only one request now. Lord, bless me to go 1000 days.” The Lord heard my request and granted it. During my fast I kept wondering and saying, “Lord, why? Why won't you give me a release from this fast?” It was not until I had fasted 1000 days that God revealed the reason why He had me fasting all those days. God spoke to my mind and said, “Vernard, I didn't have you fasting for `you', I had you fasting for people who need Me all over the world.” So I was not fasting for me, I was fasting for you --people who are broken, people who have been wounded and bruised, and people who need God to move in their behalf.

Dr. Vernard Johnson is known as the “Greatest Gospel Saxophonist in the World”. He was recently inducted into the International Gospel Music Hall of Fame and received the “Lifetime Achievement Award”. He is the CEO & Founder of Amazing Grace International Church in Kansas City, Kansas and also the CEO and Founder of Vernard Johnson Concert Ministry. He is a man of many talents including a gospel music recording artist, a Symphony Orchestra Conductor & Composer, a song writer of over 50 songs, an author and most of all a soul winner. Through his concerts and crusades he has won over 140 thousand people to Christ across the world. He has three earned degrees: a Bachelor of Music Education from Emporia State University in Emporia, Kansas; a Master of Church Music from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas; and in 1979 he was the first Afro-American to receive a Doctorate in Sacred Music from Southwestern Seminary in Fort Worth (the largest seminary of any kind in the entire world).
