Little Boy Brown’s parents were very excited to bring him home, and he was very happy to finally have a family. He loved his new street. It was long and had all sorts of nice neighbors. Little Boy Brown was the fastest boy on Sunshine Lane! His favorite thing to do was run really fast up and down his street. His Mommy and Daddy watched as he kept getting faster and faster. Little Boy Brown became so fast that not even his new best friend Ladybug could keep up with him! He made everyone in the neighborhood happy because he would smile a big smile and wave his little paw as he sprinted past their houses on Sunshine Lane. All the neighbors would exclaim, “There goes that speed demon dachshund!”

About the Book
This charming tale is about the spirited and speedy Dachshund, Little Boy Brown, and his journey through the southern United States. Along his journey, he meets several colorful characters and stumbles across the world-famous Kentucky Derby. Throughout this exciting experience he learns the importance of family, friends and following the rules. Finally, Little Boy Brown winds up back in the comfort of his family and best friend, Ladybug. The warm, hand-created illustrations made from charcoal, pastels, and watercolors are sure to delight and intrigue youngsters. The discussion questions included at the end of the story are a great tool to help teachers build a lesson plan, for parents to use at home, and make this book a great choice to read-aloud or group story time.
About the Author
LEXIE LUCAS grew up in Garland, Texas and has always been a dog-lover. In 2005, she graduated from the University of North Texas in Denton, where she rescued Harley “Little Boy Brown” off of a windy hill. The adventures and the lessons that Lexie learned while raising this tiny, loveable, and hopelessly stubborn dachshund who loved to run, is what inspired her to write her first children’s book. Currently, Lexie and Harley reside in Washington, DC where she works for the United States Senate and attends graduate school at John Hopkins University. In her spare time she frequently takes Harley to run, swim, and play ball ERIS GENTLE is a wife, mother, and multi-media artist living in the rural outskirts of Austin, Texas. She studied creative writing and studio art at Louisiana State University and obtained her bachelor’s degree in 2003. Both her art and writing has been featured in The Delta Journal and The Birth Project magazine. Although she enjoys immersing herself in drawing mediums such as charcoal, pastels, and ink, Eris considers her two extraordinary children to be her greatest artistic creations.
