About the Author

Tara Shenéa Gause (pronounced Shuh’nay) was born and raised in Paterson, New Jersey and now resides in suburban Atlanta, Georgia. She is currently an upperclassman at Georgia State University completing a bachelor’s degree in Journalism. In her youth, Tara Shenéa was a consistent honor student who excelled in all required areas of study but was overly fond of English-related subject matter. By the tender age of 12-years-old, she was already a two-time spelling bee winner and had received awards and recognition from the Board of Education and the Mayor of the City of Paterson for winning first place in an all-inclusive school district essay competition on “How to Say No to Drugs.” Gause expanded her writing career as a professional singer and songwriter at the age of 19 as a member of a female R&B group while living in New Jersey. The group relocated to Atlanta, Georgia in 1997 to gain exposure and further their career opportunities and officially disbanded in 2001. Tara Shenéa then focused her writing talent on the bustling spoken word poetry scene in the Atlanta area and began writing and performing full-time in the Southeastern corner of the United States. Her love and sincere interest for poetry flourished and strengthened as she spent the following years researching and studying poetry from classic and contemporary American poets, the Harlem Renaissance, the Beat Generation, the Black Arts Movement and American and International form styles of poetry. Her poetic contributions have been recognized, praised, and awarded by online writing communities such as: The Underground Poet’s Society, Inc., the Writer’s Café and also by the Discovery Channel’s Planet Green. Gause is currently working on her first spoken word CD and her second volume of poetry for the Goddyssey Museum of Poetry.
