About the Book

Inside of Me comprises the entire collection of Madeleine Weintraub's poetry and reveals the thoughts and emotions evoked in her as she experienced life, observed world events and appreciated God's creation.  The subject and style of her poems changes distinctly from her younger years as a Beautiful Dreamer to her Bittersweet years with her true love, Jerry.  While raising her family, Madeleine wrote almost no poetry, until finally, in her Lonely Years, she writes again, turning almost exclusively to prose to pour out her heart.  Her deep faith in God and passionate patriotism is expressed throughout her poetry, and her love of nature and fascination with the American West are evident even in her earliest writings. Surprisingly, some of her observations on politics and war are still remarkably relevant today.

About the Author

Madeleine Lafayette Weintraub was born December 7, 1923 in Pawtucket, Rhode Island. She had a passionate view of life, even at an early age, and began writing poetry at age 14.  In 1940, at age 16, she met her true love, Jerry, but parental opposition kept the romance secret.  After experiencing the attack on Pearl Harbor on her 18th birthday, she became deeply troubled by our world at war, and the bigotry associated with it.  She and Jerry were married in 1944 and, despite many separations during his military service, they went on to have 8 children together. After their divorce in the late 1960's, Madeleine further enhanced her love of books and poetry through her studies at San Diego State University,  simultaneously launching a 20-year career at the SDSU Library.  Madeleine now resides in El Cajon, California.
