About the Book
The title, Dueling Sisters, refers not to the fact that they are fighting or arguing, but rather reveals the differences in their point of view and the way they perceive the world around them. Their poetry communicates these differences.
Raised in the same household, their individual life experiences led them in different directions. Marieta remained in
Their visions run the gamut from reflection on life, to nature's beauty and grandeur to social statement.
They have fun with their writing.
About the Author
Carolyn (Spurgeon) Headrick and Marieta (Spurgeon) McMillen were born in
The sisters both have a Master's degree in Education and each has a lifetime of experience with children of all ages.
Carolyn has worked with infants, toddlers, preschool, junior high, high school, and special education.
She currently operates a Family Day Care in her home.
Carolyn has three grown sons, five grand-children and three step-grandchildren.
Marieta has also worked with infants, toddlers, preschool, junior and senior high school, and special education. In addition, she taught at a Community College and has taken care of foster children. She currently is an adjunct professor of art and art history at
Marieta adopted two sons and has one grandson. The oldest boy died in 2001; the youngest still resides in his hometown.
Both sisters are creative, whether drawing or painting, writing poetry, stories, or mystery novels.
To borrow a phrase, it is a wonderful life.
