Tony took his hat off and asked me to sit down on the bench where one sits to take off snow-covered boots. I sat anxiously, waiting for this bad news to come.
He said with a somber tone, “A young girl’s body has been found on Hoosier Pass. Some cross-country skiers found the body, which had been beheaded. If you saw just a foot or other extremity, would you be able to identify your daughter?”
“Of course I could because she was my baby.”
He then continued with the rest of his conversation.
“The body has been taken to the morgue in Denver. So, we can go there. I should take you because you are not in any emotional shape to drive. You know that. So, shall we go?"”
Naturally, I fell completely apart. My arms felt as though they were being stretched to the point of dislocation and I became extremely weak as I screamed:
“Oh, no! Oh, my God, this can’t be! No! Not my beautiful daughter. How could anybody do that?"
I realized that panic is not what I need to do right now.
"I must regain my composure because I really have a lot to do.” … The highway was terrible -- whiteout all the way until we got into West Denver past the turn-off to Golden. I was in a state of shock and shivering so badly that my body seemed to be all one giant cramp, in anticipation of what we would find. I was too scared to even cry. I wondered what George had put her through before she died.

About the Book
NEVER LOOK BACK is the author's first book. It is a fictionalized memoir, most of which is based on actual events in her life, and which has been riddled with tragedies, abuse, and crime against her family as well as extreme crime against two of her daughters and against her mother who was murdered. Her husband dies in the end -- the crowning blow to her character, Marion Whitehead; however, Marion re-structures her life and enters the music business again as a virtuoso soloist and chamber ensemble musician, primarily after thirty years in retirement due to her latent guilt relative to her daughter's being kidnapped while Marion was on her concert tour.
About the Author
Marilyn Parman is a professional musician, a virtuoso contrabass soloist, chamber, and symphony performer. She also has a history of other accomplishments in physics, competition swimming, and sailing. She also loves to ski.
