My Life as a Dollar Bill

My looks were fading and I had a tear on the right bottom corner. Yet, I was given away to a magazine vendor next. Later that day, he took a taxi and I was given to the taxi cab driver as a tip. I was on a taxi cab dashboard and for a few hours, I was getting a grand tour of New York City. The taxi cab driver picked up and dropped off many passengers and I was finally given as change to a stout man who was in the cab with his wife and their five-year old daughter. They were dropped off at the airport.

I found myself on a plane – flying the blue skies!!! I was very excited and thrilled to be going to a new destination. I had no idea where we were going.

After a few hours, the plane landed and the pilot mentioned that we had arrived in Orlando, Florida. I could feel the sticky humidity in the air and I kind of liked it. The stout man and his family checked into a comfortable hotel and I spent the night on the table that overlooked a garden of palm trees and beautiful flowers.

The family woke up the next morning for breakfast. The little girl, whose name was Polly, was ecstatic and jumped around the room with glee. Her father reached over to the table and gave me to her, along with a few more dollar bills. He said to her in a loud, jolly voice;

“Here is your pocket money, my poppet. Come along! We’re going to Disney World!”
