The Berserker
I sailed to battle with neither mail nor shirt,
But I ate some special mushrooms to blind me to the hurt.
A bearskin on my back, I charged into the shore,
Assured of my blessing from the thunder god, Thor.
The alarm was sounded and they came to fight,
But they had never tasted a Norseman's might.
In minutes I killed ten, and soon it was twenty,
And of the men I slew, my allies weren't many.
An arrow grazed my cheek and I yelled out for more,
The second arrow aimed true, but I continued to roar.
I hacked with my ax and bashed with my shield,
Though my blood was gushing and my bones were revealed.
I was born in the north and died in the south,
And I headed for Valhalla...still frothing at the mouth.

Warrior Poems is a collection of poems that attempt to capture and express the feelings and emotions of history's most complex people: warriors. It includes vivid poems of brutal warriors who fight for gold and plunder, for ancient gods, for honour in death, or simply for the love of bloodshed. The direct and brutal nature of these poems will fulfill a longing for readers who desire material that is both unique and alive with the adventure of history.
About the Author
Steven Brunet has been writing stories and poetry since early childhood. Even then his work tended to be too violent for the taste of his mentors. At age nineteen he has perfected this art. He has always been inspired by the warriors of old -especially those who reflect his mixed French, Scandinavian, Métis, German, and Russian, ancestry. When he is not spinning tales of blood and battle, Steven Brunet enjoys ancient arts such as traditional bow-making, archery, axe-throwing, blacksmithing, and making armor. It would be safe to say that Steven Brunet was born at least 1000 years too late and it is apparent in his poetry. Though somewhat of an anti-social, he enjoys writing poems that are at once shocking, emotional, and thought-provoking for the reader.
