Ray Reese was on his way to the pros when an injury ended his career. He ended up back at the high school he took to the state championship and won as their quarterback. Now he is 22 years old, married to Robin, and the assistant football coach of that same high school. He soon has twin boys and meets Tom Tyler at the baby viewing window in the hospital, when Tom is looking for his twin girls born at practically the same time. The next day, as Ray is pushing Robin in a wheelchair holding twin boys in blue head caps, he turns the corner and sees Tom pushing his wife, Toni, in a wheelchair holding twin girls in pink head caps. That day, Ray, Robin, Tom and Toni began a friendship that by accident, coincidence, and then very careful planning, culminated 25 years later in fame, fortune, and the love of millions of Americans
While fishing in a small boat, waiting on their bobbers to bob, Tom and Ray are talking about how they got where they are today. Tom told Ray that after having four girls, he wants to have a boy, then he would get the fix and have no more. Ray responded immediately with " Robin wants a girl. She said she loves the boys, but wants to have a girl, and then I should get fixed and have no more." The guys sat there in that boat and came up with a plan. Getting the girls pregnant was easy. Choosing the sex was a total failure. Ray and Robin now had five boys, the two oldest being twins, and Tom and Toni had five girls, the two oldest being twins
Ray bought full size footballs for the boys to sleep with and in the back of his mind, he pictured all five of his sons playing football for him. The youngest boy, Ray Jr., carried his around like most babies did a blanket. It was his woobie.
The boys get to high school.... After 15 years of hanging around a football coach for a dad, the twins are pretty good at any aspect of the game, and even though they are three years younger than the seniors, find all the boys on the team wanting them to play. Ray brings the team closer to the state championship each year but gets defeated as another one of his boys join the team, but discovers that after his youngest, Ray Jr., gets there, he has an offense that is just completely unstoppable. With dad on the sideline, the five brothers, after the youngest, but biggest, fastest, and strongest son Ray Jr., got on the field as the running back, with Ricky, the senior quarterback, Roger and Robby on both ends of the line as receivers, and Randy with his tree trunk sized thighs as fullback to block or get the yard needed, the freshman, sophomore, junior and two senior Reese boys had the local sportswriter getting more space in the paper. Ray Reese is being drafted behind the scenes by a very well known University of Texas head coach that has seen images in the back of his mind of the same thing Ray Reese has seen...... Keeping the boys together appears unlikely..... Ray Jr, after winning back to back Heisman Trophies, and being first overall in the NFL draft decides not to play football in the pros, a decision that will cause tears, grief, paramilitary action and millions of dollars to change hands.
