Blaue Hexe rises earlier today, well before the pale sun alleviates the darkness. She steps in the snow… it is not ugly, it is just different. It is not white. The snow is black. Blaue Hexe, smiling, looks at the marks of her soft footsteps in the snow. Blaue Hexe is so thin that she almost floats like a dragonfly, whose wings are her slender arms spread open. Pensive, Blaue Hexe gets close to the fence. Without knowing why, her heart beats very strong, so strong that it almost cut her respiration. But why? Something falls onto her bald head. ‘Aiii’, exclaims Blaue Hexe. She looks at the snow to see what hit her head. She finds a small branch. She looks up and gives a huge smile. The pair of black eyes smiles too. Blaue Hexe also sees four points of light. The four points of light now fly around Blaue Hexe. She opens her arms as if she could fly again. The pair of black eyes jumps from fence stake to fence stake. The lights follow, curious. They go to the other end of the forced labor camp. Piu jumps to the ground and passes through a small hole dug by him during the last few days. Blaue Hexe looks back. There is no time to go back and call the other little witches. The sun begins to gain strength, illuminating the field. Grüne Hexe awakes. She smiles. ‘Go! Go now!’ says Grüne Hexe in thought to Blaue Hexe. Blaue Hexe passes with difficulty through the small hole dug below the fence. She thanks the Little Moustache for the daily bread and water. The four golden points of light guide Piu and Blaue Hexe to the east. They walk for many days. Everything is just destruction. Walking is hard on dangerous trails, but at the same time it is safe, as there are almost no patrols of the Little Moustache. Piu, always quiet, gives no peep so as not to draw the attention of anybody. They pass the border, and there is almost no more black snow. The Blaue Hexe smiles and jokes with the piece of the handle of her magic broom. They find a small stream and a large and hollow tree, and the Blaue Hexe takes shelter there for the night. “Piu piu,” said Piu. “Zzzzzz...let me sleep,” It has been a long time since Blaue Hexe could sleep well and in safety. “Piu piu piu piuuuuu,” he hooted, angry now. “Okay Piu. Oh, heavens! Ohhh, I woke up! My eyyeesss ahhheee that sleep, are open!” Blaue Hexe stretched. She saw an apple, a carrot, and blueberries “Where do you find these things, Piu?” said Blaue Hexe. “Piu piu.” “Where are they?” asked Blaue Hexe. “Piu piu,” said Piu. “Are they in the stream?” asked Blaue Hexe. “Piuu”, answered Piu. “Okay,” said Blaue Hexe. Blaue Hexe walks to the creek. She washes her face and gives a smile. She has a small blue carpet on her head. Her pair of green eyes is greener in the reflection of the water. Her short blue hair gains movement in the flowing water. The four golden lights fly around her head. But Blaue Hexe lowers her head and is sad. “Piu! And the other witches? Are they all right? I cannot communicate with them! I think the distance and our tiredness cut our channel of communication”, said Blaue Hexe. “Piu.” “Just a piu! So weak…” said Blaue Hexe. “Piupiupiuuuuu.” “Now, yes,” said Blaue Hexe. Blaue Hexe eats her breakfast. Piu just looks. “For you, Piu,” said Blaue Hexe. “Do you eat leaf?” “Piiuuu”, said Piu. “Take a stone for you to eat,” said Blaue Hexe. “Good. Hmm... nice. About the Book
The Blaue Hexe is a small witch with blue hair who, with the help of her magic broom, is responsable for the nature of the Blue Mountain. She has several friends—the wild cat Miau, the deer Bearr, the rabbit Carrot, the leafy tree Centenary, and the crow Piu. They all live happily until the Little Moustache takes power through a coup and arrests Blaue Hexe because she is different from the Little Moustache group. Her magic broom is broken in two parts and she loses her powers. The Little Moustache is destroying nature by extracting black blood from depths of the Blue Planet. The Blaue Hexe works for long time in the forced labor camp, but she escapes with the help of her friends. She discovers that the Magic Kingdom is divided in two parts, west and east. The two parts of the Magic Kingdom have not met for a long time. However, a large concentration of witches with the cables of their magic brooms tap their broomsticks against the great wall, in sync with the rhythm of their hearts. The beats repeated on the wall gradually affected the other side of the wall, and the wall finally came down. The two groups, west and east, meet. They look at each other. They hug, and they acknowledge that difference is beautiful. Difference is constructive, no matter the color of their hair. No matter the color of their clothing. What matters is the heart and the values that can be found there. Grüne Hexe, friend of Blaue Hexe, made a beautiful speech, and she showed to everybody that the energies of the sun, the winds, and the tides are better than the black blood. These energies are clean. She screamed, “Forest, yes! Black blood, no!”
About the Author
G. Demolin, a Brazilian agronomist engineer, earned his master’s and doctorate in entomology from Federal University of Viçosa, and he has done postdoctoral work in agroecology at George-August-Universität in Göttigen, Germany. He is a professor at the Federal University of Minas Gerais and has received a scholarship for research productivity from the National Council of Technological and Scientific Development (CNPq), with more than 110 published articles. G. Demolin has written five other books for children and youths which address issues relating to nature conservation and how to produce food in an environmentally friendly manner. His biography is sometimes included, at invitation, in the publications of the Marquis Who’s Who (USA) and the International Biographical Centre (Cambridge, England).
