Biography of Captain Michael S. Alexatos USN (Ret.)

About the Book

Michael S. Alexatos was born in Titusville, Pennsylvania on the 29th of August, 1919 and, before the year was out, developed a severe case of whooping cough which led to asthma. He was plagued by asthma until he was twelve years of age when the disease left him. His family moved to Greenville, Pennsylvania where he saw his first airplane. We must assume that it was a Jenny because they were plentiful in those days. He was with his mother at the time and when he asked what kind of bird made that much noise, she laughed and told him it was an airplane that was controlled by the man who was sitting inside. Michael was four years old at the time that he envisioned himself in that pilot’s place, hoping that someday he would be able to fly.
