This groundbreaking book is now available, on Author House. The guide was initially published in April 2022. A Parent’s Guide to Hiring an Educational Consultant: Helping Parents to Rebuild Their Children’s Lives. The book represents extensive guidance by the author on the role of Independent Educational Consultants (ECs) and Therapeutic Consultants (TCs). As the reader explores the guide they will find chapters on the therapeutic program for their pre-teen, adolescent, or young adult. Additionally, the guide will explain educational needs to parents and define, therapeutic, or special needs for children, that are critical to the needs of parents. The guide will explain where children pre teens, and adolescents belong in exploring school and treatment options.
About the Author
Authored by Kenneth Davis, MA Ed, he states his purpose for undertaking this monumental task. “It is very much a passion of mine " to help parents gain better and deeper knowledge about the how-tos and whys working with ECs and TCs can help their family. The guide is available from other booksellers, including Author House, Barnes and Noble, Target, Walmart Thrift Books, and Draft-2-Digital.
The 250-page guide is filled with research-based information for parents. Mr. Davis has over 20 years of experience in health care and 14 years as an EC. He also trained as a clinician in psychiatric and physical medicine and rehabilitation. Mr. Davis graduated from Pepperdine University and earned his MA Ed in 2004 with undergraduate students at Abilene Christian University in Abilene Texas where he earned in Bachelor's degree. Additional studies include; the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Wayne State University and the University of Maryland, and The University of Illinois at Champaign Urbana.
The following is a sample of the topics included in the guide: how and where to locate a consultant and the services they provide; the differences between educational and therapeutic consultants and international agents; the ins and outs of student placement; typical, atypical, and international placement options; working with students with special needs and learning differences; what to expect with an Individual Education Plan (IEP) or a 504- plan. Traditional boarding schools, day schools, college costs, and finances are discussed. Student visas, international placement, and the Gap year experience are explored. Other topics related to students’ needs include treatment programs for substance use, addiction issues, and support for families needing counseling and parent coaching.
The author carefully breaks each chapter down in the guide and explores multiple options for parents. For the reader’s convenience, a note section for each chapter allows them to keep notes and personal insight into each chapter as they explore all aspects of working with an Educational Consultant.
The guide explores education, financial options for prants funding, and other topics and their impact on parents facing their children’s future education in numerous settings.
