The Evolution of Nora

Luciana Brazzano and his boys had made bail. Georgio had picked them up. The first thing Luciana said was, “I want that Gambini broad dead. I hope we can catch her alive and let Georgio play with her with his knife. You would like that wouldn’t you Georgie boy.

Georgio put on an evil grin and said, “That would be fun Uncle Luciana can you get her for me?”

We’ll try Georgie boy.”

As Nora had a little free time she stayed with Darlene. She loved the fresh bagels in the shop next door to Darlene’s condo building and went out each day to purchase one. She never took her purse with her as she had the exact change for the bagel. She always wore her long-sleeved blouse with her derringer apparatus as it was a daily routine now.

Just by accident one of Brazzano’s men spotted her picking up a bagel one morning. Luciana had them watch for her the next morning and sure enough she went there again. As she started to enter the bagel shop a garbage sack was put over her head and then duck tape was put around it rendering her helpless.

She was thrown in the back of a van and they sped off with her. After forty minutes she was taken out of the van and into a house where they removed the garbage bag. She was standing before Lucianan Brazzano.

Luciana said, “Well, we finally meet Ms. Gambini. Let me introduce my boys, Marcus and Junior and also Georgio Petera. You and Georgio are going to become really familiar in a little while. I hope this will teach all the Gambini family they can’t mess with the Brazzano family without paying a price. Take her to the bedroom Georgio and have a little fun.”

Georgio had a leer on his face that was pure evil. He started to take Nora by the arm but she backed away, straightened her left arm which brought the derringer to her hand and shot Georgio in the groin. The impact of the hollow-point lead bullet blew all Georgio’s essentials away leaving a large hole in the front of his pants.

Nora calmly turned her gun to Luciana and said, “I won’t aim so low with you Luciana, just give me an excuse and you will cease to exist.”

They were all in shock and she turned to Marcus and said, “Now you, funny boy, get the keys to the car outside, we’re going to take a ride.”

Marcus picked up the keys and she followed him out the door with her derringer pointed at his head. A moment later they were driving out of the compound. They had only gone a mile when Nora said, “Pull over and get out.”

Marcus did her bidding and she pulled away. She didn’t want to go back to New York City as she was afraid the Brazzanos would spot her before she could get help so she turned down a side street and saw a telephone booth. She stopped and looked in the compartment between the seats and there was a cup full of quarters that were used for the toll stations.

She dialed the director’s personal number and he answered on the second ring. Nora said, “Mr. Director, this is Agent Wilson. I just escaped from the Brazzano family and they will probably find me shortly. I have only a derringer with one shell left to protect myself. Can you help me?”

“Of course, Agent Wilson. Give me your location and we will have someone with you in about ten minutes.”

“I hope I have that long. I don’t know exactly where I am. When I was abducted they put a garbage sack over my head. I can see the New York skyline and so I’m probably in Jersey. I can see three large smoke stacks and a water tower….wait, I think I can see the freeway.”

“Go to that water tower. Agent Herm Edwards isn’t far from there. He’s driving back to D. C. and should be through the tunnel by now. Hold on a minute.” The Director was shouting something and moments later said, “They have Agent Edwards on the radio and he says he’s within five minutes of that water tower. Drive to it and good luck.”

Nora took back streets to the water tower and just as she drove up she spotted a black sedan. Herm Edwards got out and waved to her. She let out her breath and drove over to where he was. She said a prayer of thanks then jumped into the back seat as Herm held the door for her. He jumped in beside her and they drove off.

“You were in a bit of a squeeze I hear. Well, we will have you in D. C. in an hour or two and all will be well. I’m Herm Edwards and this is my driver, Tom Billings. Are you with the Bureau?”

“I am now and not a minute too soon,” Nora said and Herm smiled. Herm radioed D. C. that they had picked up Nora Wilson and were on their way. They were unaware of what would happen in the next five minutes.
