Prologue
Africa, the first explorers came and felt awe, wonder and inspiration when they looked across the forests and savannahs, of the rich African Continent and lands. Once they gained power and the technology, they began to exploit the riches of the continent. They saw the first sparks of wealth as gold, diamonds and minerals and the dawning of the exploitation began and lasted centuries. Later it picked up pace, the incomers mining and excavating and reaping rich rewards. The great explorations of the past died away, leaving deserts where once there were riches. The land was vast swarming with new treasures and so the collection, cataloging and knowledge grew with time. In so doing, they tinkered with the destiny of Africa and its peoples.
The indigenous Africans patient, watched and learnt, as the explorers came and went. The tides of fortunes on both sides ebbed and flowed; the evolution of Africa was yet to happen and Africa rose towards new goals.The ceaseless experimenting discovered new forms of wealth, till Off shore Oil was struck beneath the African Atlantic Ocean.The Multinational giants established themselves in remote places like Port Harcourt and Lagos West Nigeria. Where once there were villages, delicate communities, thriving under the subtle mists of Africa, the oil companies landed like giant eagles from the African Skies. The Africans of West Nigeria, had been freed from much of the tyranny of the past and its colonial history. They were a proud race, their Chiefs, the Suns of West Africa.
Africa, a strange mixture of the ancient and the modern was moving forward. Globalisation and world communications had revolutionised the world including Africa. Now the Nigerians were ready to collaborate with the Oil Giants that descended upon them. They took hold of the experiments, but they were no longer obedient or subservient to the mandates of the Multinationals nor the corruptions of their own progressive governments. Legends rose in Port Harcourt, and they peacefully rebelled against the exploration of their ecosystems and the environment surrounding their villages, till others joined them. Human Rights agendas came to the fore. The influx of the Oil Companies brought in new doctrines, like globalisation of commerce commerical reform and corporate structure. The exploration of Oil enriched the coffers of an already rich multimillion dollar worldwide economy and industry but also modernised Port Harcourt.
This then is the story of West Africa, through the perspective of an ordinary aviator; a Helicopter Pilot who worked for the Oil industry in Port Harcourt.

About the Author
The Author was born in Kashmir, India and her Father served as an officer with the 8th Gurkha Rifles. The Author's paternal uncle was a great influence in her life and served as a Naval Attache under President Eisenhower and a Naval Diplomat in Russia. She married a Forces Officer and Pilot with whom she travelled to many places in Asia, Europe, Africa and the Americas. She primarily trained as a geneticist conducting research in cancer genetics collaborating with scientists at the NIH, Bethesda. After obtaining her Doctorate, she taught and researched extensively in Cancer and Molecular sciences. She later completed her Masters in Intellectual Property law and trained to become a solicitor with a highly reputable British Firm. She was greatly inspired by her Law Lecturers who imparted legal education by the excellent socratic method. The Author has two sons, the older a Forces Officer and Pilot like his Father and married to a Commercial pilot and the younger is at University, hoping to follow in the well established family tradition; but engages an additional passion for formula one racing.
