Hi,” yelled Crocket at the top of his lungs as they walked towards the elephants. “Shh,” warned Dust Bunny. “Don't yell at them or you might scare them. I was reading a guide book in Mrs. Tucker's suitcase on the way here and it said to approach the animals with caution. Even though they look harmless, they're still wild animals and it's best to go slow and let them get used to you.” “Oh, hogwash,” said Crocket. “Watch this.” Crocket started barking and ran up to the fence. The elephants all looked at him with horrified eyes, lifted their trunks and made a loud trumpet sound. Crocket put his tail between his legs and ran as fast as he could back to Dust Bunny. “Well,” he stuttered. “That went well, don't you think?”

Beth Smithem lives in Monterey, Tennessee, with her husband, three dogs and two cats. She inherited the love of animals from her mother, who allowed them to keep turtles in the bathtub! It's no wonder that animals have always played an important role in Beth’s life and a major influence in her writing.
