A Man of Destiny is based on a true historical story about the love and military life of Giuseppe Garibaldi whose famous Red-Shirt Army conquered Sicily, Naples and other parts of Italy from 1860 to 1871 and to formulate his destiny to unite Italy which was then composed of many rulers. Garibaldi was a professional liberator, a man who fought for oppressed people even in South America. As young man, Garibaldi was condemned to death by the King of Sardinia, but escaped to South America. There he fought for many years against the Imperial Armies of Brazil and Argentina to liberate the small country of Uruguay. It was there he met and fell in love with Anita even though she was still married to an Argentine soldier who was later killed in action which allowed them to marry in a church. Because his destiny was always pulling at him he decides to go back to Italy with his family even thought he's still a wanted man. The people of Italy, however, cheer him over his exploits in South America and the hope for freedom. The newly crowned King of Sardinia, King Emmanuel, eventually pardons him. He later brings his Red-Shirt army consisting of thousands of exiled Italians from Uruguay to fight against the Austrians. He was rebellious and against the command of his king. He and his army conquered Sicily, Naples and were heading for Rome. In Rome, however, he was stopped by the French who controlled Rome and the Vatican. He reestablished himself in the king's favor and was enlisted to fight against the Austrians in the north. Garibaldi was wounded several times and was captured by the Austrians, but was able to escape. Garibaldi became very famous throughout Europe and the ladies worshiped him. After his wife, Anita, died he became involved with many noble women, especially a German Baroness. He also became very popular in England where he had affaires with Royal ladies and almost married one. Garibaldi's destiny finally came to a reality when King Emmanuel traded lands West of Italy including the City of Nice, Garibaldi's birthplace, to Emperor Napoleon II for the city of Venice in 1871. Garibaldi was against the trade by losing his birthplace to France. He died ten years later.

A MAN OF DESTINY is an Epic about the life of Giuseppe Garibaldi and his struggle to free Italy from outside rulers. Up until 1871 Italy was composed of many rulers: Austria in the North East, a King over Naples and Sicily, a Sardinian King in the North West, a French Emperor who ruled over Rome, and different Princes ruling over Central Italy. Italians spoke many different dialects, but after the unification only one language was spoken. Giuseppe Garibaldi's destiny was to unite Italy as one country. He and his famous Red-Shirts had to fight many rulers in 1870. He first began by conquering Sicily and worked his way north. He was considered a hero especially by European women who adored him.
