The idea for HOMETOWN POLICE BLOTTER came when co-creator Andy began posting excerpts from the various police and sheriff department blotters from his hometown on his Facebook page. Sean, the other co-creator, found them to be truly entertaining and suggested they put together a book.
Andy and Sean both grew up and went to high school together in Nevada County, California (a beautiful rural community in Northern California nestled in the Sierra Nevada foothills about two and a half hours east of San Francisco). This would be their first time working together.
But to really take this book to the next level, Sean suggested they have some of the blotters illustrated. And who better than the dread-lock headed eccentric artist, Star, who is also from NorCal (as we often call it). FYI: Star is his nickname. His real name is David and he’s Jewish, therefore the most logical nickname would be Star. Get it? Good.
Being the kind and generous types, they decided to donate a portion of this book’s proceeds to benefit scholarships and to support funding of the arts and music in schools. Plus, it’s good karma to do nice things for other people. Usually.
Oh and we know this book is typical bathroom reading, so don’t be embarrassed if that’s where you find yourself enjoying it most often. We’re totally okay with that. Just wash your hands and put the toilet seat down (not necessarily in that order) when you’re done.
Now that we’ve got the particulars out of the way, please sit back, relax, and take a load off (no bathroom pun intended). This collection of ludicrous, ridiculous and incredulous calls made to local law enforcement couldn’t be more entertaining. “We couldn’t make this sh*t up, even if we tried!”, says co-creator/art director Sean Michael Beyer.
But wait, there’s pictures too! The best of the best have been brought to life through the demented eyes of artist David ‘Star’ Fields with hilarious illustrations of how the caller, alleged perpetrator and/or responding law enforcement might look.

About the Author
Andy Spurlock – lives in Las Vegas with his family. He enjoys his kids’ activities, volunteering, officiating amateur boxing, movies, and college football. He likes the eccentric people in Las Vegas but still thinks they can’t compete with the local folks of his former hometown in Northern California. He desperately hopes the Pulitzers start a new category of “Best Bathroom Book” before this goes to print as he has already booked his travel plans to the award ceremony.
Sean Michael Beyer – a self-proclaimed “jack of all trades, master of some,” Beyer has worked in the entertainment business since he moved to Southern, CA in 1989. He has directed & produced two independent feature films, numerous award-winning short films, music videos, commercials, infomercials, webisodes and is an accomplished graphic artist. He also plays the piano, does abstract paintings & drawings and has a bunch of tattoos. In his spare time he enjoys cooking, fine wine, dirty martinis, and spending money.
David ‘Star’ Fields – inspired by the 2D animators of the 80’s and 90’s John Kricfalusi (Ren n Stimpy) and Jhonen Vasquez (Invader Zim), Fields always wanted to be an artist. From the time he could hold a pen, he constantly drew what came to mind, realizing very early on in life that what he found funny, most people found offensive.
“I have to give thanks to my mentor and good friend Anthony Dejesus whose amazing talent has inspired me to strive to do my best work and be the best artist I can. This book was one of the most fun projects I’ve ever worked on and I’m very thankful to get the opportunity to do what I love.”
