Exactly two minutes after our little argument, Donna and I were no longer one. She grabbed her belongings, including Orion, and stormed away, saying she was going to stay with a friend. Neither my mother nor my grandmother bothered to ask what happened. Well, even if they did ask, I would have just lied.
For a few minutes, I stared at the candle Donna gave me. Then I thought. I slowly stumbled to the small hallway that led to my bedroom. I found a small closet and pulled out some matches. I set the candle on top of my dresser and lit a match. As the small red flame released the aroma from the candle, I thought about how this exact moment could be the last time I had a whiff of Donna’s magnificent yet mysterious smell.
