A succession of boats came past during that summer, often stopping for a day or two. We got to know so many kindred spirits from many nations. The one thing that struck me about this way of life is how we are judged for being us. It doesn't matter where we came from, who we are is about just that, us. All the trappings of home, family, business and standing in the community mean nothing here. We have nothing to live up to and that is such a relief. I could take my clothes off and run naked through the streets and people would think, she's a bit weird, not `well look at that, Mrs West's daughter doing that, would you believe it and with her upbringing as well, gossip, gossip, gossip!' Actually, you're fairly safe, I couldn't run anyway!

The author's sense of fun and zest for life is shown in the story of a long voyage by barge through the canals of England and France. Describing the search for and the eventual building of the barge that took her on that journey. About the Author
When not travelling the author lives in a converted medieval barn in West Somerset with her husband Mark and son Will. Diagnosed with M.S. aged twenty-two, her love for life and sense of humor have enabled her to live life to the full despite encroaching disability.
