About the Author
Enrico Ciro Daniele was born in Bracigliano, Italy, in the province of Salerno. When Rico was 4 years old, his family came to the United States and settled in Springfield, Massachusetts. Rico’s early memories of his father taking him along to watch games of bocce turned into a lifelong passion. At the age of ten, when Mount Carmel Society members gave him an old set of bocce balls, Rico and bocce became inseparable. Much of Rico’s life has been devoted to sports, ranging from ping pong to baseball to basketball, though the game of bocce was his first and, to this day, predominant love...a love that Rico wishes to share with the whole world, literally, through the efforts of Mom and Rico Daniele’s Specialty Market of Springfield. “Bocce is the perfect sport for everyone,” Rico says, “something that everyone can play, young or old. Let’s get bocce courts in schools and playgrounds for the kids, parents, and grandparents, to bring our families together with this simple game that takes five minutes to learn, but a lifetime to master.”
