Future Indianapolis Mayor Phil Bayt from Haughville was our first All-City football player....Jim Emerson Carter became our first State Champion...The first four-year class of 1931 included Ishmael Lawlis and future NFL official Frank Luzar....Joe Dezelan, Hop Howard, Swede Radcliffe, Lavern Burns, Louie Luzar, Cliff Baumbach, and Dave Hine along with star Harry Cherry would run Coach Bogue's Box Offense and Pony Backfield in 1932 when the Continentals defeated Carmel 104-0....Corporal Charles Bradshaw from South Holmes was recognized in a news article as a hero before his death on Okinawa in May 1945....Ivan Smith was initially noted as the first Indiana Marine KIA in Vietnam in May 1965.... Washington High was Marion County's only State Champions in both football and basketball during the 1960's and 1970's....current Purdue basketball assistant Jack Owens would become our last All-State player in both football and basketball.

About the Author
Eddie grew up in the same neighborhood and attended the same public schools as had his mom and dad before him. He also was a teacher-coach for seven years at the school on the National Road. His personal relationship with a wide range of Continental loyalists spans the 20th century and includes hundreds of individuals.
