You walk about a house and hear the sound of whimpering puppies. You look around and see a mother dog and nine little puppies. It is obvious they are not being taken care of very well. So what do you do? Author Helene DuGahl’s The Puppies Find a Home is the story of Millie, a girl who finds the mother and puppies while walking her own dogs. Though Millie wants to save them, their owner refuses to let her have them. Disappointed, Millie can’t get them out of her mind. She’s not sure what to do or how to do it. The only thing Millie is sure of is that she has to save them. The Puppies Find a Home is based on a real-life event in the author’s life. You’ll discover what’s possible when you’re willing to give it your all—and when you have lots of friends willing to help.

About the Author

Helene DuGahl retired after a twenty-four-year career at AT&T in 2007. During her career, she made many good friends. This story is about one of them who adopted four puppies. She wrote the story in 2000 and when she found the notes years later, she decided to publish the story. I hope this story conveys to children to believe in yourself and go after what you feel is the right thing to do.
