Sinister

The darkness hid everything except her fear. She hoped it would hide her too. She had no way of telling how long she shivered in the silence. Suddenly, the silence allowed a faint scratching sound to enter. The horrible sound came from somewhere beneath the floor of the crypt. She leapt to her feet, pressing her body flat against the cold steel door. Urine warmed her shaking legs down to her feet. The scratching sound grew louder ... closer ... they were coming. She pressed her trembling hands over her mouth to smother a scream that threatened to betray her presence. A muffled moan she couldn't cut off escaped. The scratching increased in tempo and volume; they knew she was in there now. How could she hope that they didn't? They were coming to get her. A sharp metallic clank broke through the darkness, then a hole opened up in the floor with a loud grinding scrape. Each sound went through her body like a high voltage shock. On the far side of the room a pale green light shone up through the hole, and then a shadow moved within the light. She turned her body to face the steel door without taking her eyes off the hole for a second. A scream like no other before filled the crypt. A small shape emerged from the hole in slow motion, and crept toward her on tiny hands and feet. Her brief gasps for air between screams allowed her to hear the whispering hiss of the shape that crept closer and closer. The creeping thing thirsts for the warmth of her blood. A much larger shape surfaced from the hole wearing a greenish-white gown. Her scream for help froze in her chest. "Come to me evil one ... come and let me eat." The voice was a cavernous far away wheeze. She absorbed each spoken word, then collapsed to the cold marble floor with a painful thud. Everything became black.
