Although Gabrielle was only 8 years old, her mother taught her how to say her prayers every night before bed time. Gabrielle had been saying the same prayer every night for about a year: Lord, thank you for my mommy and thank you for taking care of me and mommy while daddy is away. Lord, thank you for providing for mommy and me. And Lord, I pray that you bring my daddy back home soon. Amen. Gabrielle’s father had been away in the military for over 2 years. Gabby and her mother missed him so much, but they knew that he would come home soon, they just didn’t know when. He was Gabrielle’s hero and she was so proud of him, but now she wished that he would come home.

About the Book
Gabrielle Jordan is a 2nd grade student who loves her family. However, she is having some difficulties adjusting to her father, who is in the military, being away from her and her mommy. Every night, Gabrielle says her prayers and she prays for her father to come home. By the end of the story, Gabrielle is proud of her father for protecting their country and she sees him as her hero.
About the Author
Kawanis Perryman was born and raised in Atlanta Georgia. She graduated from The State University of West Georgia with a bachelor’s Degree in English in 2004. Because of her passion for children and writing, Kawanis began teaching middle school students how to excel in reading and writing in 2005. After 5 years of teaching, Kawanis received her Master’s Degree in Administration Education and decided to begin her writing career so that she could reach not just her students, but children all over the world.
