The funeral procession order was very important among the old Italians. It was almost a question of status. The immediate family rode in the first black limo following the hearse. If there wasn’t enough room in the first limo, the spouses would ride in the next. The siblings of the deceased followed and so on. God help those in the very back who were not supposed to be there. They wouldn’t speak to you for years. My brothers, Joe, Frank and John, my sister Rose and of course, my mother, rode together in the first limo. As it entered the cemetery, the hearse made a stop at the front office. I looked out the window and stared at the building. It seemed so ironic that my father was lying in a coffin in front of us and would soon be laid to rest in the cemetery where he worked for the last twenty years, digging these same graves. Now the Irish bastards would have to do some work digging Sal’s grave. Their job was easier now since they use machinery, but it still felt good to think about it.

About the Book
A young Italian American finds himself kidnapped while visiting relatives in Southern Italy only to find that he was not the intended victim. Fascinated with the organization, he accepts their offer to join them. Upon returning to the States he finds his whole life changes and you are taken through the unique workings of a secret society, which its sole purpose is to help Calabrians. Salvatore Robert Froio combines personal experience with fiction and leaves the reader wondering which is fact and which is fiction.
About the Author
A former drama student at University of California in Los Angeles, Froio has appeared in numerous stage plays and films. His first novel, i venti corni (The Twenty Horns), first issued in 2001, was so well received within the Calabrian Community, that he was selected by the Italian Newspaper “La Voce” to be included on their list of famous Calabrians of the 20th century alongside celebrities such as Tony Bennett, Connie Francis and Ann Bancroft. He currently resides in Sweden with his wife, Anna.
