When we think of attitudes, we have come to understand the difficulties of change. We have learned that perception of incoming stimuli is greatly affected by attitudes. In fact, a consumer’s decision to purchase an item is strongly based on his or her attitude about the product or the salesperson selling it. Attitudes are a person’s enduring favorable or unfavorable evaluations, emotions, or action tendencies toward some object or idea. As they form over time through individual experiences and group contacts, attitudes become highly resistant to change (Boone and Kurtz 2008).
We know from research that thoughts have a powerful effect on us. They affect our attitude, our physiology, and our motivation to act. Our negative thoughts actually control behavior. They make us stutter, spill things, forget our lines, break out in a sweat, breathe shallowly, or feel scared. And when taken to the extreme, they can even paralyze or kill us. Negative thoughts affect your body negatively, weakening you, making you sweat, and making you uptight. Positive thoughts affect your body in a positive way, making you more relaxed, centered, and alert. Positive thoughts will cause the secretion of endorphins in the brain and will reduce pain and increase pleasure.

About the Author
Dr. Wicker has been teaching at numerous colleges and universities since 1999. In his current position as a full-time professor at Brazosport College, his areas of concentration are organizational behavior, business ethics, operations management, quality management, international management, and information technology management. (Author of Goal Setting Published 2008), (Motivation: An interactive guide Published 2009), (Attitude is # 1 Published 2010), and (Job Satisfaction Published 2011). Dr. Wicker has also been a textbook reviewer for topics such as: Management Technology, Quality Management, and Strategic Management to name a few. Dr. Wicker’s educational background includes a doctoral degree in the area of business organization and management, a master of science degree in business administration, and a bachelor of science degree in business. His business experience includes 21 years working in the automotive industry for General Motors Corporation.
