About the Author
About the Author Marva Egnew grew up in Utah earning a Batchelor’s degree from USU and a Master’s degree from NAU. She and her husband, Ed, now reside in Phoenix, AZ. They are parents of 10 children and are awaiting grandchild number 38 to make his appearance. Marva is a retired teacher, having taught in the Balsz School District in Phoenix, Arizona for 21 years where she began her career teaching Kindergarten…after all, isn’t that where learning outside the home begins? Eight years later, she taught English and History to 7th and 8th graders…there she thought she had “died and gone to Heaven!” Counting Sheep is her first book. Marva and Ed both love and respect the beauty of Native American culture. Ed is a Navajo speaker. He attained fluency as he resided for two years on the Navajo Reservation. He also assisted in the book’s translation. About the Illustrator Allie Welsh is a native of Arizona and grew up with his parents in the area of Parker, Arizona. Allie has taught at Devereux Arizona and Griffith Elementary in the Phoenix area. At Griffith, he passed on his love and talent for art to the young children in the classroom, who benefited greatly by learning confidence and freedom of artistic expression under his tutelage. Allie’s art work has been displayed in the Heard Museum in Phoenix, Arizona. He has been employed as a map-maker as well, and currently works at his favorite past-time…that of cooking. Allie is a gifted artist and talented in a myriad of artistic mediums. His works are beautiful, well researched, factual pieces of art! Enjoy his artistic talents in “Counting Sheep!”
