Imagine a place where ladies are not ladies, but what some might call animals, trapped in a small cage, never knowing if it's night or day.
Chairs were flying, ladies were disobeying orders and pushing each other, crashing to the floor with no remorse.
Once again crazies wouldn't settle down for their daily routine, one that consisted of heavy medication so that no assistance was needed. They pulled their hair and shouted weird sayings.
It was a normal Friday at Sunny Side State Mental Institution.
Or was it Friday?
Sunny Side earned respect caring for the insane. New arrivals were welcomed if you dare allowed one of your loved ones to be checked in.
It was nearly impossible to escape and those caught were severely punished. If you escaped the facility, you may not get out of the snake infested swamps.
Their conditions are so horrible and hopeless as far as having any better life....this place was filled with fear.
Ladies were slumped over in their chairs trying to hold on for another day. Their faces lay helplessly in a plate of food, while others stared hopelessly into space.
You could trust no one and no one trusted you. Every step taken was possibly your last. No doubt, the crazy one was watching you. It mattered not, because they had no life. Hope remained for those who were young. Many were young, but their minds were old. They knew one place, one home, the asylum, a place were disturbed minds drifted beyond the strawberry fields. Echoes of fright could be heard, as inmates cried from fear of pain. Never stare into the eyes of the insane.
I suppose what was once a beautiful woman, did not comb her hair for months and had dark circles around her blue eyes. She wore a torn dress and her feet were caked with dirt. She walked backwards, but talked in circles. This resident, Darlene U. McFarland is extremely dangerous and holds the record for abusive attacks on nurses, guards and other residents. She will make every known effort to escape, like a spider uses its web to lure its victim. She is insane, but remarkably intelligent and could cause great danger to others. She can't remember her name and some believe she murdered her father. However, his body was never discovered and no evidence was found. Her mother was quickly losing touch with reality and had her doctors totally confused. Doctors learned about another member of the family, Thomas, who was a loner. He lived in an a abandoned farmhouse at the end of a dark country road. A cemetery sets across from the farmhouse which overshadows the view of the incredible swamplands. Townspeople refused to travel this road in fear of a flat tire or breakdown. No one wanted to be stranded after dark on "Cemetery Road." Thomas had Slim, an old bearded farmhand who lived in an old barn behind the farmhouse. They raised and sold beautiful green head mallard ducks, but feared duck hunting season. Isabelle, an old bag looking lady lived at the beginning of the road, a mile or so from Thomas' farm. She was born near the banks of the bayous filled with poisonous snakes. She chewed tobacco and believed the juice was voodoo venom.
Meanwhile, back at Sunny Side, Darlene was no where to be found. Panic had settled in and residents were locked up for head count and security, as they yelled and screamed with fear. Staff members noticed a medical bag filled with syringes and numerous bottles of medication were missing. Improper use of these drugs could cause severe damage, if not death. Rumor has it, she has escaped.
Footprints, missing eggs and a glow in the woods has Slim concerned and asking questions.
Thomas received a letter from a cousin he's never heard of and her wanting to spend time with him on his farm. Hello, my name is Amanda Norwood and would like to visit and get to know you better. Thomas was worried for times were hard and he had little or no money. Worry struck Thomas again in a more serious manner with headlines from the daily news reading "Two hunters missing and presumed dead." Last seen near "Cemetery Road."
