Richard yelped as the door unexpectedly flew open towards him, the startled look of the man as he fell through, was almost comical, the mans hand grabbing at his arm, the fabric tearing as he almost dragged Richard down with him. Without thinking Richard lashed out, catching the man a glancing blow with his fist upon his forehead, splitting the skin above his eye, blood gushing into the mans eye, his hand spasming open releasing his arm. Richard went to go past the fallen man, who’s foot snapped out tripping him sending him sprawling, his outstretched hands breaking his fall, as they slapped against the stone slabs of the balcony. His assailant scrabbling after him on all fours, shaking his head, not thinking, just reacting, Richard pulling his leg back then ramming his foot straight into the mans face, who howled as his nose shattered, blood splattering onto the stone. Richard regained his feet, seeing the man reach and drag from the concealed holster in the middle of his back, a squat lethal looking handgun, as if in slow motion he began to run, his eyes never leaving the gun as it swung towards him. The mans other hand wiping the blood from his eyes, which blazed with hatred and anger as well as pain, Richard running now for his life towards the top of the stairs to the right, the seconds seeming to pass like minutes. The first shot going wild shattering the glass, fronting one of the cabinets which contained old books, sending a miniature eruption of shredded paper and shards of glass into the air, to tinkle and drift fluttering to the ground. The second shot made Richard flinch, as he felt it pass by his head, ruffling his hair, lurching away bouncing against the balustrade off balance.

About the Author
Tim Atkins was born and bred in Portsmouth, England, in the year of our Lord 1968, the middle child of a family of three, he has been writing for some twenty or so years, that is when he is not working for a living. He enjoys the thrill of writing, of shaping the worlds in his books to will, he often tells his friends it’s the closest thing to being God, because what the writer says is law in the worlds, which his imagination has created on the virgin whiteness of the page staring back at him from his writing table. His favourite quote is from one of his favourite authors, the great Steven King, who said I quote, "People want to know why I do this, why I write such gross stuff. I like to tell them that I have the heart of a small boy -- and I keep it in a jar on my desk.", Tim keeps his under the bed for safe keeping. He has had a varied life and has enjoyed many different occupations the most memorable being the Landlord of a local pub for some ten years where he made good friends, but has been told he served crap beer, “Everyone’s a critic.”, he was quoted to say, laughing. The GODHEAD is his first novel, and he hopes not his last.
