Seeking Sarah

Later that night Sarah met up with Hannah at the Darlington musicale. They left their wraps with a servant and walked into the receiving room. People were grouped together talking before the musicale began. Hannah and Sarah found a couple of seats in the third row. Sarah loved music and she wanted to be close enough to hear it. Other people began filing in and finding seats behind them. The singer came out. And the quartet started warming up. Hannah leaned over and whispered, “I confess I ’m a little excited about this. It’s not every day that we get to hear a genuine opera singer.” “I know. I hope she sings well.” Sarah said to her. The opera singer’s voice rang out, a clear soprano. “Oh she sounds magnificent.” Sarah whispered. She sat back and closed her eyes letting the opera singer’s voice wash over her. Not too far into the performance, she felt someone staring at her. The hairs on the back of her neck stood on end and she became edgy with nervousness. She turned around to look and saw Peter in the back row directly behind her. He smiled and winked. Sarah turned around quickly in her seat and ignored him. The entire first half of the performance she could feel him staring at her. The intermission finally came and people were getting up to stretch their legs and meet up with others that had shown up after the singing began. Hannah got up and turned around. She spotted her cousin. “Oh look Sarah, Peter is here. Let’s go see what he’s been up to.” She said smiling mischievously. “Oh yes lets.” Sarah said blandly. They got up and walked back to where he stood.
