I picked up my cell phone and saw it was Kyle calling. "Hi Kyle." As always I was anxious to talk with her, especially today as I wanted to share with her the names of the last responses that came in for the wedding and tell her about all the appointment I'd been scheduling to bring the final wedding arrangements together.
I heard the response, "Hi Mom" and instantly knew Kyle was not having a good day. She sounded sad. Maybe she just was not in the mood for work, or maybe she was feeling bad that we would be in Vermont and she wouldn't. She then asked me where I was. "New Jersey," I said. "Why?" Kyle asked me to call her back when I arrived at the cottage. I wasn't going to wait six hours to find out what had her so down in the dumps so I said, "Kyle what's the matter?" It took some coaxing for her to open up. She didn't want to tell me this news while I was driving. I assured her there was no traffic and I was fine. But I must admit I was not prepared for what I would hear next. In a trembling voice she said, "Mom, we have a wedding to cancel."

Patty Carbee and Kyle Paxman are mother and daughter. Their roots are in Vermont. This is their first novel. Together Strong is a story of a canceled wedding and the events that followed, told from both the mother's and the daughter's perspective.
