About the Book

Babaloo is teased and insulted by bullies. Babaloo can be a girl or a boy who feels pushed around by other kids. Bullies are all about hurting your feelings to see you get upset, cry, or get angry. Babaloo knows that treating others badly is a bully's way of having control over other kids, but you can learn how to have power over what is happening. You can stop the bully's attempt to control you by learning some skills to keep yourself from becoming a victim. Babaloo shows you how to use five steps to be successful. Many examples of how to use the formula are given so you can think about and practice ways to deal with bullies. Babaloo knows that showing courage with bullies will surprise them and result in them leaving you alone. Babaloo knows how you feel when others are mean to you. Throughout the book there are pictures of bullies--waiting to be colored the way you see them. At the end of the book, there are pages included to help you figure out more ways to handle your bullies. YOU can be in charge of stopping a bully's taunts!

About the Author

Marcia Staser has master's degrees in counseling and education and is licensed in teaching, school guidance counseling, and school services personnel. She is a Lilly Fellow and the author of "Art Talk," a counseling program integrating the development of social skills, anger management, and stress management with art. Working in schools with children of various ages for many years has proven to her that kids can learn skills to stop their own victimization. They can become courageous and take control of situations they never believed possible. A worthy goal for children of all ages is to develop competence, resilience, and confidence. This book supports the development of all three. Kids practice a simple formula to become competent in handling bullies. Learning resilience by "bouncing back" when other kids push sensitive emotional buttons or triggers is part of the practice, and confidence is forthcoming as the reader meets with success. Much of the information in the book was learned by observing kids who successfully coped with bullying and from practicing skills with children who were being bullied. Marcia lives in Evansville, Indiana, with her husband of many years. Their three sons helped her develop the formula for kids to use to stop bullying. They are now adults, and they know how to handle bullies. Their son, Karl, is the illustrator of Bullies Beware...Babaloo Bounces Back!
