Twig used to live in the topmost branches, of the tallest tree, on the highest mountain in all the world (at least, that is what Twig thought). And then, one day there was a big storm that made the branches of Twigs tree shake and shake until Twig fell into the soft fluffy snow from where he went tumbling down the mountainside. He lay on his back looking up into the sky when the moon peeked out from behind a cloud and said with a big smile "What are you doing there Twig". Twig just laughed and said "I fell out of my tree". Just then as the wind stopped its playful blowing, a passing puff whispered to him, "what are you doing there Twig". Once again Twig laughed out loud, "I fell out of my tree" he said. A passing snowflake settled on the end of his nose. "What are you doing there Twig" snowflake asked "I fell out of my tree laughed Twig". Just then there was a loud thump just by his head. Twig look up and there was a little boy in a bright red ski-suit. "Hello he said, my name is Jeremy, you look as if you've fallen out of your tree". How Twig laughed. "That's just what I told Moon" laughed Twig, and Moon beamed down with a big friendly grin. "And that's what I told East Wind". said Twig, and East Wind blew him a big smile. "And that's what I told Snowflake" said Twig, and Snowflake just shook with laughter. Jeremy picked Twig up and put him in the fluffy top pocket of his bright red suit. "Let's go and have some breakfast he laughed, and Moon laughed, and East Wind chortled, and Snowflake tittered, and together Jeremy and Twig skied down the mountain to begin lots of exciting adventures together. Children everywhere will love Twig and all the lovely friendly characters they meet during their very special adventures together.

About the Book
A long time ago when Basil's children were small, they were enjoying a ski-ing holiday in Austria. One night there was a big storm but the next morning was bright and sunny. Basil was ski-ing with Jeremy (who was just six years old) when they found a small twig that had broken away from its tree. This small twig looked just like the drawings you will find throughout this book. There could, of course, be no other name for him than 'Twig' and from that day on Basil used to make up stories about all the wonderful adventures that Twig and Jeremy enjoyed. The wonderful characters you will meet with the pages include Leprechauns and Elves, Giants and Dwarves, and all sorts of funny and loveable animals and insects that share his adventures.
About the Author
Basil Jay was born in London in 1942. He lived much of his early life, first in the Midlands and then on the South Coast where he married in 1965. The stories of Twig and his friends (like his later book, 'The Thirteenth Knight) evolved out of stories he used to tell his children when they were small. The Adventures of Twig not only kept his own children amused for hours, but are now told and re-told to his granchildren Jack and Emma who live in Paris. Basil now lives in mid-Kent in the summer months, and in the Canary Islands during the winter. He is now working on further adventures for Twig set in those beautiful sunny islands.
