Poerava Vaite gave a big yawn as she stretched her cute little legs off the side of her comfy banana leaf bed. Waking up to the warmth of the rising sun on her face was one of her favourite things. She loved waking to the sound of the cock crowing COCK A DODDLE DOO and the sound of the waves hitting the rocks. Smelling the beautiful sent of her white and yellow plumeria crown of flowers that rested on her head of long wavy dark brown hair, with the soft sea breeze was the perfect way to start her day.
Poerava wondered what the day held in store for her. She pondered for a minute as to who would need her the most today. How long would it be before her magical sense would tell her. She knew the day would come when she would know just what her day would hold before she opened her eyes.
You see Poerava was no normal cute 6 year old. She was a chosen Angel. Just after 7 weeks growing in her mammy's tummy she was taken away. Away to a beautiful magical place where she could see everyone on earth below and feel how they felt. But it was only 3 months after all since she arrived and was still missing her loving mother very much.
Just as she was starting to think of her heartbroken mother she gave a little shudder, as all she could hear was, “ARE YOU AWAKE YET?”
It was coming from her friend Ty Michael. He was one of her dearest friends here. He had beautiful caramel skin, much darker than her Tahitian skin, with the funniest, wildest head of curly hair she had ever seen. Sometimes she could swear when he smiled from ear to ear she could see his curls stand on end with excitement. Ty was one of the first angels she met when she arrived. Josie was the first one. Josie showed Poe around and explained things to her and introduced her to Ty, Timothy, Hayley, Edward, Finn, Angel, Autumn and baby Jamie. Poe played with everyone but had a huge soft spot for her crazy bunch of angel friends.
“YES I AM A WAKE, WHERE ARE YOU, I CAN'T SEE YOU?” She yelled back.
“OH COME ON POE, I'M RIGHT IN FRONT OF YOU,” Ty giggled back. Poe turned and searched for Ty but couldn't see him, but she could hear him giggle.
“Open your eyes Poe,” he laughed.
“Oh Ty, you’re hiding on me again, that’s not fair, one of these days I am going to get you back you know,” she said as she searched behind the coconut trees beside her banana leaf bed.
Just then there was a rustle in the bushes. She turned to see if it was Ty. Oh no it was much better, it was her pet lion Hoa. He was huge with a long golden main she loved to snuggle into when she wanted a nap. They had the best adventures ever. There he was sneaking up behind one of the trees. He looked like he was hunting but Poe knew exactly what he was doing. “Come out come out where ever you are Ty-Michael, now’s your last chance,” she yelled with a big cheeky grin on her face. “No, no, no, you have to come and find me Poe.” “Oh ok Ty, you really asked for it now!” she yelled. She gave an ever so slight nod to Hoa. Hoa gave her a wink without moving and then he gave an almighty “ROAR”. It was so loud it shook some coconuts out of the trees. “AWHHHHHHHHHHHHH, AWHHHHHHHHH!” cried Ty. “That was so mean Poe.” All three of them stood face to face not moving an inch and at the very same second the rolled around the long wild grass laughing so hard. “You have to admit Ty, that was funny and I did warn you,” Poe said wiping the tears of laughter from her rosy cheeks. “You got me so good that time, I think Hoa woke every one up with that roar.” They all laughed again. Hoa picked up one of the fallen coconuts in his huge jaws and cracked it open. “Ohhhh coconut for breaky,” they both said and tucked in.
The sun was starting to rise in the clear blue sky by now. The two friends climbed on Hoa's back and started down the long windy road that led to a special part of their long beach. “Can you tell if someone will be there Poe? I think I can,” Ty asked. “I think so, I think it’s a girl,” she said. “Yea that’s what I think to,” he replied. Both Ty and Poe knew now that when they sensed someone new the morning would be sad, but the day would still end well. They remembered only too well the day they arrived.
This special part of the beach was so beautiful. There was a cute little hut made from some palm tree branches that smelled so sweet. Inside was a bed not unlike Poerava's banana leaf bed. At the foot of the bed was the most delicious plate of fruit that made your mouth water, and sometimes all snuggled up just beside the bed would be a pet. Some new angels had their pets when they arrived and other angels got them a little later. It really depended if their mammy's had given them a pet before or after they became angels.
As they got closer to the beach Hoa slowed down. Poe and Ty looked at each other and gave a sad smile and said, “it’s a girl.”
