The Litter Critter

The evening passed uneventfully for Mark; he ate his Shepherd’s Pie, was allowed to finish his sweets and had a bath ready for bedtime. Just as he was getting his pyjamas on he heard the same rumble of thunder again. ‘I’m not imagining this’ he thought and ran into his bedroom and tiptoed to his window, which had a lovely view of the park and the field he often played football in. Expecting to see thunder clouds rolling across the sky he looked up but again he couldn’t see any big storm clouds, only one small dark cloud just over the swings. He turned round to get into bed, took two steps forwards then stopped, suddenly. A cloud over the swings? That couldn’t be right. He went back to the window and saw the dark shape again – it wasn’t a cloud, it was far too low and looked solid. Then his eyes opened wide as his mouth fell open and he stood frozen to the spot, leaning on the window sill, peering out into the dusky evening. For in that dark shape, two perfectly round, bright yellow eyes appeared and blinked.
