About the Book
What event most electrifies a small college town?
Is it the U.S presidential elections?
No.
Is it an earthquake? No.
Is it the election of a new mayor? No.
Is it the firing and hiring of a football coach? Yes..
This is the story of just such an event. This is a fictionalized version of real stories and real people who lived long ago. The undefeated football season summarized here actually once took place at Rutgers University.. Other events actually took place primarily at St Lawrence University. Yes there was an outstanding season. Yes there actually was the horny sociologist. Yes, there actually was a beautiful woman we have called “yes”. Yes, the sex in the chapel and the ridiculous faculty smoker actually happened; And the coach is the hero, or is he? And there has to be a villain, but who is the villain in our story? And who is the heroine?
About the Author
Dr. Horlick graduated with a BA from Rutgers University in the class of 1939, and with an MA in the class of 1940. He received his PhD in French literature from Columbia University at the age of eighty-nine in 2007, which was made retroactive to 1954 (a very interesting story in its own right). He was a soldier during World War II, where he served in military intelligence and fought in the Battle of the Bulge. As a U.S. government employee following the war, he headed international research programs in a number of federal agencies. After his “retirement” from the government, he served as an editor of International Benefits Information Service from 1982, where he continues working to the present day. He has traveled to Europe and other continents on business more than forty times. His first book, The Pension Mountain, was published in 2007.
He considers his proudest achievement to be his wife of sixty-eight years. Ruth, a fine arts photographer, has exhibited extensively on three continents. Dr. Horlick has been a lifelong sports fan. He has been wanting to write this book ever since he witnessed Rutgers defeating Princeton for the second time in history back in 1939.
