The light projected through a virtual filter and focused into a cone on the front of the pod. The red light was invisible to the creatures beyond the safety that the launch house provided. This came in handy as Ashley could navigate the pitfalls of plate travel with a degree of stealth. Ask any recon agent how much they love the red light. Since the use of the red light, pod and pilot casualties decreased by 90% The system was not drool proof. Foolproof maybe but a pilot still needed some sort of skill and knowledge of the system controls. If not they would quickly become a genetic dessert to the creepy crawlies in the tank. The tank was the fluid area between the plates. Bad things swam in those waters, bad things. The large ones or ‘Rigs’ as some of the old timers named them were instant killers, simply put. These were the worst. They explained these creatures to be as big as a truck. Ashley did not know what a truck was but she could agree that the 'Rigs' were huge. It's hard to say how big since very few people who were fortunate enough to see one rarely returned and received the deep six toe tag on a heap of with where alls. These usually consisted of a post card of a beach or a city with clean lines. Ashley pondered her previous thought... Maybe those who got the deep six were the lucky ones in the end?

Extinction Chronicles brings the events of mankind at critical points of development out of the shadows and into the light. Hazel, a collection of four stories, presents segments of life from the perspective of Kaley Walls. Kaley is a young entrepreneur who is about to discover her niche in the universe. The Observer, a stand alone short, documents the events of mankind's final days. See the world through the eyes of recon agents Ashley and Ed. The year is 2060 nearing the end of a conflict known as the 'Flesh Wars'.

Hello. My name is Jamie Horwath. One of my personality strengths is my imagination which should help me in my preferred genre. I like to spin a yarn with a horror or sci-fi theme. I try to keep my characters grounded and aim for a more cerebral reading experience. I live in North Eastern Pennsylvania. My dog, who is affectionately named Storm, is a Beagle pup. I hope to bring you, the reader, a unique and fun experience that can stay with you for a good while. I plan to deliver on that by crafting quirky characters that help drive entertaining short stories. Along with entertaining, my goal is to get under your skin just a bit with fantastical environments carefully rooted in reality and reflecting modern themes.
