About the Author

Marilyn, born on Staten Island, New York, graduated from Wagner College,with a degree in English. She is a former elementary/secondary school educator, college administrator and a New Jersey Certified Prevention Specialist. Additionally, Marilyn has had experience performing and directing choral and dramatic presentations. Marilyn is also an active member of her church, where she currently serves as Lay Leader, substitute organist and piano player. Marilyn continues to be dedicated to the strengthening and supporting of youth advocacy programs to assist and strengthen the building of healthy children. Presently, Marilyn is a volunteer, Court appointed, member of a Monmouth County Juvenile Conference Committee. This committee deals with first time youth offenders, offering pathways to avoid future problems. Marilyn lives in Howell, New Jersey, with her husband Ken and is the proud mother of one son, Rob, who resides in California. She enjoys spreading joy with everyone she meets. Marilyn believes that every living human being has a purpose and a special talent waiting to be discovered. Always having the desire to write a children’s book, Am I Important? is her first attempt. Am I Important? is an animated story, through the personification of punctuation marks, that demonstrate the importance of a young family member. Additionally, this story introduces the importance of formal communication. Formal writing is slowly depleting in our present world. Where are the writers of the future who will script the history of today? The children of the present are the historians of tomorrow.
