Take My Wrinkled Hand, Lord

TWO DARK STRANGERS Ed was a little worried! His supply of food was very low. His daughter usually kept him well stocked, but she has been ill with the flu for over a week now. He had no milk left, no bread for a sandwich, not even an egg in the refrigerator. He decided to get his cane and walk the two blocks to the store. He had no trouble getting there and finding the things he needed. Even the bags of groceries were light and he had no trouble holding it even with his cane in the other hand. As he left the store, he noticed two young men leaning against the storefront smoking and laughing. One of them said “Hi Pops”. Ed said “hello” to be polite. As he started walking home, he thought he heard the two boys laughing a short way off. Just as he rounded the corner to his street, he looked back, he was right. They were following him. Ed was weak. He knew he would be easy prey, for he couldn’t run and it was getting dark. Being alone he feared the worse. The men were getting closer now. Ed looked up to his “Heavenly Father” and asked “Him” to help. The men were almost upon him when he reached the few steps going up to his apartment. All of a sudden Mr. Hayden from the apartment above him rushed out to help him. Mr. Hayden gently scolded him for not letting him and his wife do his shopping for him. The two men grimaced and continue on down the street. Ed thanked Mr. Hayden and told him how scared he was. Mr. Hayden had gone to the window to shut it when he saw Ed coming around the corner. He had not even seen the men following Ed. Ed put his groceries away and then he gratefully sank down in his recliner and thanked “God” for “His” help and “His” mercy. This was not the first time “God” had intervened in Ed’s life, nor would it be the last! Have you ever been so afraid that you were at the point of losing your ability to deal with the circumstances around you? You hear others talking but nothing seems to register. You realize you are out of control! These are the times when you will know whether you really trust “God” or not. “He” is in control of your life. “He” tells you to cast your cares on him, because “He” is the one who cares for you. No matter how small the problem is, if it concerns you, then it concerns “Him”.
